L2 0-5 St Ives Ladies 2

Cath Anthony

After arriving rather late for our meet time (apparently Jason's fault, not hers), Naomi started putting on her yellow socks, querying 'We are wearing yellow aren't we?'...That would be a 'no'. Fortunately, I had a spare pair of blue socks and Loopy could strip to literally give her the shirt off her back.

The game started brilliantly with us playing some incredible hockey for the first five or ten minutes. Unfortunately that didn't last too long as St Ives managed their first goal. Over the last few weeks we have kept positive throughout our games, even when losing. Today that didn't really happy and we put our heads down.

Alice and Polly were on an absolute roll at the back and were defending their hearts out (hence their joint MoM) and if they hadn't been there we may well have gone done by more.

Esme managed to clear the ball very well up the right where Dani did a good job in pushing it up towards Steph on the wing. It looked like we were going to get some goals when the ball was going in to the D and we were keeping the ball in the St Ives' 25 but unfortunately we were lacking a player on the post.

Two more goals came in the first half for St Ives.

During the second half, St Ives kept possession for the majority of the game but again our defence was playing really really well.

Emma South did well in her first match of the season and just kept going, pushing the ball towards the ever reliable Naomi. Unfortunately, as we have been suffering with most of the games this season, we were not very good at moving the ball from defence through to the forwards. Ash and Vanessa were well positioned on a number of occasions but it just didn't seem to happen.

Apparently we are on a roll with our 5-0 losses...will definitely be trying to change this tradition next week.
