Respect but not Victory

John Greaves

A battling display saw Cambridge South 4ths go down to City 5ths...but only by three goals. Discipline in defence and everyone in the team competing well meant that it took some time before a technically-superior City side scored.

Alan "the Rock" Radford produced a man of the match performance to thwart many an attack, supported by his defensive colleagues Stu Creed, Paul South and Douglas Gibson. Stu, returning from injury, was the instigator of South's best moves up the right and epitomised the spirit of the team, never giving up, and not allowing details like younger, fitter, faster opponents from stopping us trying to turn defence into attack.

Dazzling skills saw City grab a goal before half time, but they were unable to add to this until near the end. In fact the home team were unlucky not to score, with Ian marshman shaving a post and Boris Lossy almost catching the GK out when one on one.

Overall an encouraging performance to go into the Christmas break.
