Balls to faces and sticks galore

Emma Julian

A beautiful sunny Saturday at home with Rebecca’s music to get us in the mood, the L2s were ready for a win. Sadly, it wasn’t quite to be, but what a game we had!

Pelicans came out strong and with the history between us they didn’t wait long before finding the backboard. Not long after this our poor Rhi got a ball to the mouth and left her looking like she’d gone heavy on the blackberries!! - always wear your mouth guards kids!

The team were building well and doing their best to meet the ball and work around the defensive line. Rewarded for their hard work South found themselves with a short corner which Nic absolutely pelted towards the goal and Soph converted it to a goal with the most beautiful deflection!

Finishing 1-1 at half time South went back out with increased intensity - along with string warnings for both teams to watch the stick tackles!! Jenny and Niamh were holding the fort at the back along with Nic, Rach and Rhi worked tirelessly on the wings, firing the balls to the mids and forwards. Tabs was as usual driving the ball down the line and sneaking her way past the opposition, Rebecca was intercepting some brilliant balls and creating some great game play.

Sadly, Pelicans managed to find the back of the goal once again, but South continued to fight. Hannah, Jules and newcomer Lizzie all made some excellent run and moves in the D which shortly saw south being rewarded as Jules nutmegged the keeper to take us level once again.

Sadly just before this our tenacious and reliable sweeper Hayley had bravely defended a ball, which left her on the floor with a very sore nose - luckily Midwife Em was on hand, albeit not the usual end of business! Another hit landed when Em finally committed the fatal tackle that lead to her first green card and walk of shame!!;

Just when we thought we’d secured another goal, it was disallowed for catching Rach’s foot! Very sadly to add further salt to the already wounded South Pelicans secured a final goal to take the lead.

Whilst it might not have been our day, the game play between the girls just gets better and better. We will continue to build and on the return to Pelicans ground take home the points!!

LOM
Sadly Em was voted this week for her card - although it was a team effort!!
Honourable mention goes to Rach who rocked up late due to the BF doing the washing late! You just can’t get the staff!!

MOM
Newcomer Lizzie was awarded the crown this week for her wonderful movement and game play in the forward line.
