Overnight rain = slick pitch. Dreamy conditions at Long Rd for M2s to take on City Vets.

South felt their way into the game and started moving the ball around really nicely, combined with an effective press the opportunities started to come and the goals followed.  Jacko opened the scoring, put into the D down the left knuckle and sliding it past the keeper into the far corner. Chalk then scored after some great team build up play transferring the ball to the left and a really slick setup from Will H. Jacko topped one from top D, Tom Blair managed to deflect the very slow bobbler past the keeper. Jacko then really got hold of one blasting it between the keeper’s legs from the right knuckle. 4-0 South at half time.

While the halftime message was to keep the foot down, City worked their way back into the game after some sloppy passing and some diving in from South. City’s opportunity came when a ball was played through the middle, keeper Matt Lee was first to the ball but proceeded to go through the ball and then City’s youngest vet who went flying. Matt was in a merciless mood and saved the P-Flick with a diving save from the same youngster. Moments later, Mariano calmly chested a ball off the line which led to another flick, this one hitting the post though it looked like Matt had it covered. Still 4-0.

After this period of pressure, South started passing to open side sticks again with Jacko sealing his hat trick from a left slip short corner and Tom Blair calmly slotting into one corner while the keeper was busy pushing one of our players towards the opposite corner.

In amongst all this South saw needless green cards from Stuey (can’t remember why, bad tackle!?) and Chalk for tackling with his foot after missing the ball with his stick.

Resounding victory all in all. Shout out to Dimi for silky skills in the middle, Nik Patel for driving straight from the airport to the game and Jacko for hat trick MOM.

Tom Blair, not one to brag, soon announced after the game that he would be a fantasy football bargain and only minutes later lots of people in the club were aware of his 2 goals and 2 assists, the speed of dissemination was strangely swift and far reaching.
