Room 101

Kim Cooil

If I had to put anything out of my 20 years of hockey into room 101 -including receiving a yellow card for being too emotionally unstable to remain on the pitch- see archives for that particular game. (I’m sure Jan can dig it out - it was against Haverhill and he was in fact umpiring!!! [ed - it was the Haverhill Ump who gave Kin the yellow card...]) it would be my 30 seconds of stupidity today.

What to do:

  • Play fast pace, intense hockey causing South to have most of the possession and territory in the second half including a number of short corners
  • Score in the first 5 minutes of the game with a lovely passage of play
  • Link together some lovely passes resulting in a quality second goal minutes before half time
  • Play selfless hockey working hard for each other and pile on the pressure

What not to do:

  • Presume a ball is going to go off the back line only to watch in disbelief (inches from it) as it continues rolling, rolling, rolling all the way into the goal.
  • Not retreat five metres and gain your first green card (Jenny’s first green, obviously not the authors first…)

Amazing goals, stopping some very hard balls like a wall, and generally having a smashing game

We won’t ever mention that goal again, although it will probably haunt us in our dreams
