Peele Leisure Centre - Trip Advisor Review

Matt Need

Location - 1/5

After driving for what seemed like hours, getting further from civilisation every mile we drove, we finally reached the destination. Near no major sites of interest.

Landscaping - 4/5

The newly laid astro was a nice touch. Brightly coloured with an even bounce. Much better than the sand based pitch I had previously touched upon.

Facilities - 2/5

Despite a warm shower, the lack of toilet paper and locks on the doors means a low score in this department.

Catering - 3/5

Usually a jacket potato tea would mean a very low score but a great crispy skin and adequate amounts of butter give it a respectable 3/5. The cake was a nice touch as well (happy birthday to whoever it was who had previously celebrated with the cake.

Atmosphere - 4/5

The Long Sutton team provided a friendly atmosphere for a game played in good spirits, their captain remarking during the game ‘you’re actually a decent hockey team, you don’t deserve to go down’. The umpires were kind enough to teach some of players some lesser known rules involving short corners. Much improved from previous visits.

Humorous Touches - 5/5

Alec getting his first yellow card is a moment he will surely never forget. A sarcastic comment followed by a stick through lead to a 5-minute breather. LoM however went to Vincent who turned up dressed as lemon on a day we were meant to be dressed as aubergines.

Performance - 4/5

The performance was particularly good. Solid defensive work from Huw and MoM Martin, limiting the opportunities in front of goal (credit to Martin for forgetting he had been out for 3 months with injury and playing without a sign of rust). The midfield was both solid in defence and creative in attack, the wingbacks providing good attacking options. The forwards made good runs and created chances. All in all a good, cohesive team performance.

Result - 1/5

Despite the words written previously Long Sutton were lethal in front of goal and south were not leading to a 4-1 scoreline that does not reflect the game that was played.

An excellent first game after injury - no rust at all!

For arriving in the wrong coloured kit.
