Flip flops on the turf

Will Burscough

This was less a south vs opposition game, and more an everyone vs the sun game. Many fetching hats, and sets of flip flops could be seen from the “warm up”. Not terrible ideas. Eventually we decided to start playing.  After a bit of back and forth stick tackles, it was decided enough was enough, and the green cards started flying. But a back post tap in from Nev gave us a nice early lead.

The tables turned and Bishop Stortford managed to score two goals, one very generously assisted by my own lemony defending. Heroic keeping kept that number from growing. Thankfully some great team play and smart passing allow Rob B to back post an equaliser.

The game continued, both teams struggling much more against the heat than each other, sportsmanship was high despite the odds. Eventually some scrambling with the Stortford keeper following Rob's short strike resulted in a 3rd goal for south nicely lifted in by Jordan.

Given that no one lost their cool, I’d say this was a victory for both teams, and a great warm up for the season!

Some fine match-winning saves at critical moments.

Saw a green and also assisted their second goal.
