L4s vs Kettering 2s

Catriona West

To sum up this match with a quote from the umpire at the end of it: “I don’t know how Kettering won that tbh”. Yeah us neither m8:/

The match started, middle-d and ended looking very positive for us - we had 80% possession and were basically constantly inside their 25/ D. Our forwards Liv, Bex, Mo and Amelia, as well as both Beckys in the mid, all had some lovely shots on goal … however none ended up actually inside the goal. Their keeper clearly had had her weetabix that morning as she was saving everything left right and centre … good for her and everything but also can you just not://

We played some of the best hockey we’ve played all season, with the mids creating triangles and running into space and Shree intercepting a lot of Kettering passes, as well as focussing on passing back and working around, just none of this lovely hockey was converted into any goals. Big sad.

Our defence of Ellie, Laurie, Annabel, El and Ginny worked hard to keep Kettering out of our 25. Unfortunately, whereas we had about 100 shots on goal and none went in, Kettering had 3 shots on goal the whole match … and 2 went in. A high forward break got round the defence and a cross to another forward saw Kettering’s first goal just before half time. In the second half, a player managed to dribble around about our entire team and pass to left post for another Kettering goal. Oops.

Pom went to Becky W for fab work in midfield - special mention of course to Nicole for stepping into goal for us - thank you!! Lom went to Mo (shock) for a variety of reasons including being late with the kit bag, making a noise like a bird/ whistle/ squeak on the pitch, and something about soup …?

Here’s to hoping their keeper miraculously isn’t available for our next match against them …

Excellent play in the middle, and a lovely strike on goal

1. Arriving late with the kit bag (and all the balls) 2. Squeaking (very loudly) while receiving a pass 3. Demanding tea and food be brought to her at teas to avoid getting up
