Men's 2nd XI defeat Harlow II, 3-1
Harlow Men's II 1 - 3 Cambridge South Men's II
H/T: 1 - 2
Scorers: James Pope, Andy Lewis, Gareth Hebbron
MoM: Gareth Hebbron - terrier like in front of the defence...but mostly for his goal celebration
Even game. A lot of good hockey. A lot of poor weather. Harlow scored first with a neat passing move wrong footing the defence. Equaliser via Hebbron to Suk Pannu; played into the D; off a defender's foot to James Pope; rasping shot from distance; unstoppable; 1-1.
South ahead with classic breakaway goal; John Greaves defending (notable in itself); hit out wide to Samin Ishtiaq; run up the wing; pass to Andy Lewis; past one defender; shoot; 1-2.
Half time.
Clincher shortly after the break; Hebbron starting deep into his own half. Many defenders beaten; much dazzling dribbling; spectacular effort; 1 - 3; lively goal celebration.
Sound defending to stop Harlow getting shots in. Positive intelligent attacking using centre and wings. Forwards unlucky not to score. Just the right way to start 2007.
It was very wet though. The chilli and chips in the Harlow clubhouse afterwards were most welcome.
Team played: Jon Price, James Lee, Andy Bleach, Jan Brynjolffssen, Simon Harper, Gareth Hebbron, Samin Ishtiaq, Suk Pannu, James Pope, Andy Lewis, John Greaves (c), Rob Barton
