Ladies' 1sts v Cambridge University Ladies 3 : Awaiting Result

With a disrupted team missing several stars, the ladies 1s set out hoping that the students on the opposition team would be hungover from end of term revelries. We were forgetting, though, that these are no ordinary students, but Cambridge undergraduates, and as such are a) competitive enough to stay sober the night before any game and b) wouldn't know how to party that hard anyhow. Shame! We got a 6-0 drubbing reflecting their great play (strong passing play and superbly well drilled short corner routines) and our inability to consistently string together passes and link play from defense to the opposition D.

Despite this, everyone worked hard and there were great efforts defensively from the whole team, notably Serin and Liles in midfield and from the flying lemon and man of the match Ellie at the back.

This was a bit of a disappointing end to the league season but one which leaves us solidly in the middle ranks of the Cambridge Premier division table. An excellent result from a team which started the season having lost almost half its regular players and then more to injury as the year went on. It reflects the hard work of old stalwarts and, most encouragingly, the great performance of newcomers to the team this year and, along with similar results for the 2nds, puts the ladies' side of the club in strong position to approach next season.
