The Ladies 1s began their attack strong with a quick drive up from the mid-way line. Alice Hug scored from just within the circle from a reverse-stick to score the first goal of the game within 90 seconds. After some great mid-field play and attacks on goal, Souths won their first short-corner to score again. Receiver Alice passed off to Lyndsey on her right, and after a short struggle Bex tapped it into left post. Although we attacked for most of the game, the opposition did manage a break in the first half, to score off a text book short-corner that could not have been defended to bring the score to 2:1.

Souths were determined not to let their lead drop, and Georgie (third member of the crack striker line-up) was not prepared to let Bex and Alice have all the glory. She again drove the ball into the circle, with a lay off to Bex. The pass came back to Alice on left post, a bouncy ball, but Alice managed to get her stick on it for a beautifully raised ball into the back top of the net. The opposition regained some ground and after some focus in our defence, with Loopy staving off a number of 1-on-1s while the back line got back to goal. Georgie nabbed it on the defensive 25 to drive up the full length of the pitch. Another lay off to Alice on the left, and a pass to Bex who literally dribbled it over the goal line for the fourth goal. The opposition broke again with speed to score again, but in the closing minutes Souths cemented their lead with Bex having a strike on goal. First attempt wasn't quite there, but once Bex scooted around the goalie and had a little tussle with the oppositions final defender, she again pushed it right over the line for our fifth goal. It's obviously been hard not to dwell on our 2 goal scorers in this match report, but they wouldn't have had the opportunity without some brilliant passing and mid-field play and solid defence who mostly kept the ball in the attacking half.
