Ladies' 1sts lose to Newmarket Ladies 1

Well, it was a tough match. Although we've had some severe losses to Newmarket previously, we went out strong and with expectations it was anyone's game. It was clear from the start we were going to have to play defensively, and the mids and forwards were going to have work extra hard to come back and support the defence, which they did admirably. Marking was tight as it could be considering we (I'll put my hand up here) were perhaps not as fit as our opposition. However, with remarkably accurate tackles in the defensive D and some amazing saves by Loopy, we managed to keep their goal count to 1 in the first half, even though we didn't get many a breaks into our attacking 50 yards. Some great passing and team work by the forwards led to a goal from Bex to even the score 1:1 at half time.

The second half saw Newmarket pick up their accuracy in attack, with a number of goals that were clean and almost unstoppable. The score line doesn't give justice to the number of saves by Loopy and Ellie/Amanda/Lou C/Naomi (from mid-air!) on the back line. Although with a rocking goal from Alice saw us score again, it was a clear win by the opposition. We played well, worked well as a team, the forwards had an excellent conversion rate of goals to time spend in our attacking D, but on the day were beaten by a stronger side.
