Ladies' 1sts beat Spalding Ladies 2

After another cancellation due to Jack Frost last weekend, the L1s decided to enjoy a double-match weekend. After a long, sat-nav defeating drive up to Spalding, we rediscovered exactly why playing hockey is fun, as the pitch was bathed in golden sunshine - a welcome change from the last few weeks! With a busy weekend, we had only 11 players and, as expected, it proved to be a punishing match. It was end to end stuff, and South battled really hard to break down the Spalding moves deep inside their own half. This approach worked well, and some great passing resulted in a series of attacks in the Spalding D. A great goal from Hug put us 1-0 up going into half time. The second half was as intense as the first, and unluckily made all the more so by a couple of injuries that forced a couple of players off the pitch for some time. However, South worked really hard, and some great interplay between the midfielders and fowards kept us camped again in the Spalding half. A great backline effort from Liles resulted in a second goal for Hug, and a cushion we were all grateful for. Spalding got one back from a well-converted penalty corner, but South played out the match to grab a really well-deserved win in the sunshine. Special mention to Dianne and Liz for helping us out and playing a stormer in the process!
