Men's 1sts lose to City of Peterborough 5

M1 travelled to P’brough on a windy Saturday afternoon. The team reached the pitch late and we did not see the start of the Wale v Ireland rugby match but we still had an hour and 15 minutes for our game to start.

When the game did start it was typical M1 - “if we have the ball we will take it at least to the opponent D”. Graham, Laurie & Rich were quick upfront and very well supported by John, Finn & Mark in the midfield. In the defence Dave, Chris, George and Bhav were phenomenal

In the meantime Graham got a strike on his foot and was subbed. South looked like they lost a bit of the touch because of the extended winter break, but luckily P’brough dominance didn’t result in a goal. Well done defence but that was it.

20 minutes gone, P’brough scored from a ball that bumped on someone’s foot and came at waist height into the D; their striker (whom we later asked, is a phenomenal cricket player) hit the ball in the net. 1-0 P’brough.

Rich had different ideas and took the ball from his own half, went past 7 defenders and slotted the ball past the keeper. 1-1.

South did get a couple of PCs but we were unable to score from them.

We had to improve our game in the 2nd half.

The less said the better. After about 20 minutes the ball hit Bhav on his foot and he had to be subbed. (When will the South players learn, its hockey and not football?) P’brough scored through this PC. 2-1. We didn’t strike the P’brough goal and test the keeper for the next 35 minutes. They scored again with 5 minutes left through a field goal.

Game ended 3-1.

M1 needs to score goals against St Neots and get some results go our way if we still dream about promotion.

Rich Cleas was the MOM for his phenomenal goal and Bhav was the LOM for his crying antics - "my toe hurts can someone drive me back home, I can't drive my car, can someone call my mommy!" What a baby!

Good luck St Neots!
