Men's 4ths lose to St Neots 4

A first league game against a St Neots team who finished near the top of this league last year was always going to be tough. CSouth tried manfully thoughout but were undone by a fit and skillful opposition who bossed the midfield and always had the edge.

St Neots quickly went two goals up. The home team had chances, with some neat attacking moves from all angles, usually via Ed Bligh, Nick Greaves, Rupert Espley and Andrew Fraser, but were unable to find the killer ball. John Greaves went close from a Nick Greaves cross, but a slight deflection by the excellent St Neots keeper was sufficient. CSouth did get a goal back as Andrew Fraser, after one of many good runs, shot towards goal, for the lurking James Raikes to get a touch from close range - probably the only way the keeper could be beaten.

After Half time CSouth stuck to their game, and had good possession, and movement. Unfortunately the ball was given away too easily, leaving players upfield, and St Neots capitalised with two more goals past a battling but overrun defence, with men-mountain EvansSiddorns manning the ramparts much better than the scoreline suggests.

It was pleasing to see the team trying to play as a team, helping one another, being available to receive the ball, finding space, and movement. On this occasion, against superior opposition, it wasn't quite enough.

It was a sunny day and the Red Bull teas were excellent as always

Solid in midfield and defence. Never gave up. Always looking to bring team-mates into the game.
