Men's 2nds lose to Saffron Walden 3

Ron Oren

Cambridge South M2s’ second pre-seasonal friendly showed a marked improvement to the previous week’s game. While the final scoreline was again a 3-2 loss, we had significantly more possession this time, showed some good composure on the ball and even played around the back at times. It was more due to bad luck than a lack of skills that the possession was not converted into more goals.

Salient points to remember from the game are:

  • The opposition scored from three short corners. Cheeky.
  • Improbably as it seems, Tom Anns was involved in the one short corner that we scored from. Although credit for the goals goes to Andy Fraser, who expertly pounced on a loose rebound.
  • The opposition tried to break Russell Johnson and Jack Robertson, smacking the former on the forehead and the latter on the jaw with a ball (in separate incidents, obviously). Both are OK and Saffron Walden assures us it was incompetence rather than malice that caused this.
  • In one of the slickest moves in recent M2s history, we used a mere four passes to move the ball from our D into the back of their net, courtesy of Oli Lamming.
  • Rick Erlebach and Jack Chalk are MEN OF STEEL, capable of playing back-to-back games for M1s and M2s. Admittedly, Jack has be dragged off the pitch at the end of the game, but we won’t hold that against him.
