Cambridge South M2s lose to well-organised Long Sutton side

Ron Oren

M2s were rather comprehensively outplayed by a young and organised Long Sutton. Admittedly, we scored 2 goals; but unfortunately one of those involved Shahbaz and a strike from outside the D, so we'll have to notch that up to the opposition. The other goal was due to Chris responding to a breakdown in play far faster than anyone on the pitch, driving into the D and slamming the ball past an unsuspecting goalie, while Long Sutton were still arguing with the umpire about the legality of the original foul. It seems David's insistence on total awareness is finally paying off...

The rest of the game we'd prefer to gloss over. Long Sutton belied their status as recently promoted and showed a frustrating combination of good skills, pace and good organisation. In the face of such an onslaught, South hunkered down and defended as fiercely as possible. The scoreline might be unflattering, but it is due to the hard work by Shahbaz and his defence that Long Sutton didn't get more goals.

This game wasn't really pleasant; but if we can take the hard work on to next games it will pay up dividends against the weaker teams!
