Cambs M2s fail to impress against St Ives M2s

Ron Oren

With a squad of only 11, one of whom already had 70 minutes' hockey in his legs and another who was less-than-fighting-fit with a nasty cold, Cambridge South 2s would always struggle to stamp their authority on the game. Ironically we only played good, high-pressure hockey in about the last minutes. Who knows what would've happened had we played like that all game...

As it was, St Ives got two pretty soft goals: one that was unluckily deflected past Shahbaz by Jack R; the second a pretty straightforward strike off a short. Admittedly, they also had a stack of shorts that were successfully defended. On our side, the single noteworthy action was the skipper getting himself sent off for collecting an aerial with uncharacteristic (and patently illegitimate) skill.

The bottom line of today's debacle is that we need to start functioning as a team. And that will only happen when we improve our attendance rates, at both training and games!

To indicate our appreciation with our own performance, the two biggest contenders for MoM were Jack Robertson, for scoring a goal at least (think about it...) and Ron Oren for working hard in those few moments he wasn't in the sinbin. 'nuff said.

For choosing to do "something fun" with the girlfriend over his vice-captainly duties.
