L1 4-3 St Ives Ladies 2

Kylie Beasley

Important moments from Saturday:

  • We were playing top-of-the-league St Ives. This was going to be a tough match
  • In order to fully prepare for this, our three forwards decided to have a sleepless night. One spent her Friday evening in Lola Lo's (this is in no way connected to the M1s match report...), one decided to drink a bottle or three of wine (resulting in the car windows having to be fully open in order to reduce the smell of ethanol) and one spent the night policing the local villages (OK so this is a legitimate excuse)
  • Alice scored a beautiful goal from a reverse stick hit. Seems like the Monday night training break out sessions are paying off.
  • Georgie scored by slotting the ball between the keepers legs. She didn't realise it was her goal for at least a minute after the event.
  • Kylie scored one by pushing it just over the line, which was then pushed back out by a St Ives defender. So it was pushed it back over the line. Then we were awarded a flick..... Thankfully the umpires then had a chat and decided that the ball crossing the line on a couple of occasions did count as a goal.
  • St Ives scored 2 great goals. One from an excellent short corner routine.
  • Serin thought that South only perform at their best when under pressure. As we were 3-2 up at this point, she scored a spectacular own goal with her left foot - Rooney would  be proud of skills like these. It looped up over her head, over Loopys head and dropped in to the back of the net. It was now 3-3 with about 8 minutes on the clock
  • It turns out that Serin is pretty good at hockey tactics, and we upped our game. Alice scored another, with 3 minutes to spare leaving the final score 4-3
  • St Ives gave us a great game, and their umpires were excellent
  • Serin was lemon of the match, for reasons stated above. Photos of the lemonsie to follow
  • Lou Cantwell has now had two injury-free matches in a row. This deserves recognition
