L1 2-0 Haverhill Ladies 2

Kylie Beasley

Another win leaves us only 3 points behind top-of-the-table St Ives. Our two beautiful goals came from Alice and Elaine (more about those later), but Haverhill gave us a good match and have shown huge improvement over the season.

Here are the important bits:

  • We had a strong start, but need to remember to hold positions even when we are dominating play in order to have enough space to actually do something when we get into the D
  • Once we had figured this out the great passing play we have seen in the last few weeks was back and we were in control
  • We were unlucky with a few shorts
  • Then....one actually worked. Until a defender decided to kick it off the line, giving us a penalty flick
  • Alice stepped up, took the flick and calmly wellied it into the back of the net. 1-0
  • After an inspiring half time talk from Loopy, we came back even stronger at the start of the second half
  • Elaine took several players on, dribbled round all of them and calmly slotted the ball over the line. 2-0
  • Haverhill then decided to go on the attack. They looked dangerous on the break but Loopy made an excellent and decisive save. But almost decapitated Diane in the process. She would have been Lemon but everyone wiped this traumatic event from their memory
  • On another break Haverhill made it in to the D, but were stopped from being dangerous by Lou C putting her body on the line - and ending up getting kicked in the head.
  • This left me defending a short corner. Which I don't appreciate!
  • Julie had a great game in defense, making runs up the pitch and masquerading as a mid
  • Both Elaine and Lou had great games in the midfield, giving me even more options for the team in the future!!
  • Naomi forgot how to get to the Abbey (and was almost Lemon)
  • But Georgie decided to spend the weekend in Spain, so was Lemon

It was a close call, but Georgie 'won' in the end for choosing skiing over hockey
