Ladies' 2nds v Ely City Ladies 2

Lou Tonkin

After the disappointment of the cancellation of last week's game, the 2s bounced back with a convincing 3-0 win against Ely 2s (the recipients of last week's 14-0 thrashing from South 1s).

Ably assisted by Kim, Kylie and Diane keeping a calm central defensive line (and stealing all the goals - quite rude really), the 2s showed some excellent midfeld passing, led by temporary Co-Captain Fantastic Lyn in the centre. With Pippa to her left and Lora to her right feeding the forward line of Ash, Lauren and MoM Emma S, several chances were created in the first half which could not quite be converted. However, Kim and Kylie managed to break the deadlock with what can only be described as accidental goals (their words, not this reporter's!), giving South a deserved 2-0 lead.

Ely came back strong in the second half, trying to find a route to goal down the sides, only to find their route comfortably blocked by Emma F and Fiona, in her first game for South, leaving Loopy with little to do but enjoy the early autumn sunshine.

Late on in the match, Diane fired a perfect shot low into the corner of Ely's goal, a strike which was not in the least bit accidental (again, her words!), giving the 2s a comfortable victory over a team they will face again in the league.

All in all, a good win, and a great way to finish the pre-season friendlies in anticipation of the start of the season proper against Huntingdon 2s next week.
