L2 2-5 Huntingdon & Northstowe Ladies 2

After sauntering onto the pitch 15mins late with only 75% of the team (4 of the team having taken the 'scenic route' to Kimbolton), South started their bid for hockey fame and glory in laid-back fashion. The first half was a bit iffy, with Huntingdon managing to put three goals away, however goalie and joint MoM Jessie had a belter of a game, withstanding a torrent of attacks and making some fantastic saves.  Kat M also had a brilliant first half making some great interceptions and clears in defense and there was plenty of action up front with Lyn running rings around the opposition. There was even a penalty flick for South, however Jen didn’t quite get the ball on goal, with it lifting a whopping 1 cm off the ground and basically rolling back up hill towards her.

However, the second half was much better with some lovely centre action from Emma S (the second MoM) and Jo R who created some great movement up the middle and, in between vigorously exfoliating her hands and knees on the hockey pitch, Jules made some great shots on target, scoring a cracking goal with Kat M tapping in another one shortly after during a well executed short. Ania did a great job supporting from the right and whenever the ball headed back towards the defense, South were all over it – even though Huntingdon managed to sneak another couple past.

All in all, it was a good effort from the 2nd ladies, and if we keep improving at the speed we improved from first to second half, I quite frankly don’t know how the hockey world will take it.

Thanks to the Huntingdon ladies for a nice game. Tea rating is a 6/10 – after all, who doesn’t love chips and bread? (other than our thighs). And there was soup!

Getting lost on the way to Kimbolton meaning she arrived (with our goalie and two other players) 15 mins after pushback time
