L2 1-1 St Neots Ladies 3

It was a tough match this week against the St Neots ladies. The first half saw the L2 defence seeing a lot of action, with some of the players having to learn brand new positions on the pitch: Ania and Jen were moved from attack to defence and Dani was moved from defence up to attack.

There were a few hairy moments where it looked as though St Neots were going to get a goal but luckily Loopy made some great saves and Pip and Louisa made some great tackles. There were also a couple of shorts but it wasn't until towards the end of the first half that St Neots snuck in a goal - although Pip N did say that this was only because she "decided not to stop the ball" - nearly winning her a lemon.

Lyn also had to be reminded that she was playing hockey and not baseball after nearly trying to jump and one-handed-catch the hockey ball in mid air.

However, we didn't give up and the South forwards got a late break resulting in a short. This was amazingly executed, with Dani popping the ball to Cath who was perfectly positioned on the post to slot it in. By half time it was 1-1 but the drawing goal really gave the L2s a boost.

South's game really improved in the second half with some good passing and midfield play from Lottie and Lora. The defence were still facing a torrent of attacks from St Neots but there were a few excellent breaks by Pippa, Jo and Dani. However, neither team scored in the second half, resulting in the final score of 1-1.

MoM went to Dani for showing her excellent skills up front and assisting in a brilliant goal. LoM went to Cath, who, despite insisting that everyone arrive strictly on time, ended up being the last to arrive, TWO MINUTES late whilst emitting a slight hint of whisky and haggis from the night before...
