L2 1-1 March Town Ladies 1

Lou Walker

March are top of the league and a strong team, so they kept us on our toes. Defenders Alice, Ellie and Louisa were awesome throughout, supported well by defensive mids Yumann and Liz H who worked hard to chase down loose balls. Emma was doing a great job in centre mid with some lovely passes. Some of South's marking wasn't as tight as it could have been though, and March managed to break through the defence and score a slightly scrambled goal which we were unlucky not to clear. South didn't let their heads go down though, kept up the pressure and the play moved more towards the other end of the pitch. Just before half time, South were on the attack and there was an unfortunate injury to a March player who was caught in the chin with a stick - we hope it wasn't too serious and that she recovers quickly.

Marking was tightened up in the second half. Dani had been working hard all game and making some great runs, eventually she scored our equalizer. The defenders continued to do a great job of keeping out the March attacks, with Alice keeping calm under pressure to get some useful clearances out to the mid-field, and no-one could get past Ellie. March had a spate of short corners mid-way through the half but didn't really make the most of them. South stepped up the pressure with some nice attacking moves towards the end of the game but didn't find the winning goals.

This was a great team performance, reflected in the number of people who got a MOM vote, though Ellie was well deserved winner. Lucy was Lemon, but with a slice also going to Lyn for having completely missed our equalising goal and thinking that we had lost the game 1-0 until corrected by happy team mates!

getting lost and arriving just as the game was about to start (though once she made it on to the pitch, did make up for it with a great performance up front).
