"One....Two...South!!!"

Joe Whittaker

The match started at 9pm the previous night, John G sending out an email claiming an untreatable illness had struck him down on short notice. Worried, the skipper despatched Dr Marshman to his rescue (but mainly to get the keeper's kit off him so Shahzad could sit on the back-bar the whole game, not having touched the ball for three weeks in a row now!)

Ian M's expertise allowed a swift and decisive diagnosis of John G's illness: severe man flu. The M4s all listened in horror whilst Ian M stood, humbly with his head drooped, to convey this awful news. We wish John a full recovery.

Undeterred, and with the keepers kit, the M4s started their normal routine of: not warming up, chatting about the week's events and basking in the glory of being the club's much successful team. From these events, the LoM was awarded: whilst the team put their sticks in the usual huddle and the captain declared the number of counts before 'South' should be shouted to strike fear into Nomads, Wilco decided he would jump the gun and shout on 2 instead. With LoM decided prior to the game, we started.

Other notable mentions:

  • Ian M got told off for wearing a hat.

  • Dave M got a goal from a short corner and also assisted in the own-goal from a Nomads player from a short.

  • Joe W got a goal from a short corner.

  • Nathan had a few good chances and was unfortunate not to score.

  • Tom P claimed he was injured prior to the game and only wanted to play half - however then played the whole game.

  • Ian G apparently can't play 3s next week so will have to play 4s instead.

  • Boris made sure everyone knew that he drove 45 minutes to the game.

  • Everyone else drove/cycled about 5 minutes to this 'away' game over the dizzying distances to the Abbey (the 4s have it tough).

  • Ky volunteered himself to play 5s (thanks Ky!)

  • Wilco got MoM and LoM - both very deservedly.

  • Charlie is now unavailable for a whole month as his priorities aren't correct.

  • Shahzad didn't touch the ball once (this is now 3 weeks in a row) - a suggestion that the GK bring a book was mentioned.

  • Teas were very good and Nomads were as friendly as ever.
