M1 3-5 Cambridge City Mens 3

Jim Thorpe

South fielded a strong and confident team but went down two-nil very quickly as the City side settled quicker and demonstrated the sort of attacking fluidity and pace which South would have to find if they were to get back into the match. This they did when Tayabali converted good work from Steven Fleck into their first goal.

Confidence high, the remainder of the half was a tight, well fought battle with South dominating much of the play. Even a third goal from the City side couldn't dampen spirits and at three-one the second half got under way. Two further goals from City early in the half officially dampened spirits.

South weren't about to give up however and the remainder of the half saw South mounting a comeback with distinct nobility. Strong leadership from skipper Jim Lockhart meant that the team pulled together and the ball saw the back of the City goal twice more in the match. Another day, another defeat for South but the glimmers of brilliance will be enough to raise spirits in time for their next encounter.
