L3 2-11 March Town Ladies 1

Fiona Le Quesne

“At least it was a friendly”. That was my sister’s comment as I walked through the door following Saturday’s game against March Town Ladies.  And with a result of 2-11, boy was she right.

Still, there was a lot to be learned by playing such a strong side.  And they proved that they were at the top of the league for good reason.  Strong accurate passes and a quick midfield meant that they dominated the game.  South picked up the pace in the second half of the match, sadly a bit late after March had tasted blood and were close to victory.

With several players doing back to back games (Emma F, Emma S, Lora, Jen, Cath), South looked a bit tired in comparison, but there were some excellent games played by Lyn (running like a Common Basilisk Lizard – look it up – to set up our 2 goals).  Pip and Lauren were up front and went all guns blazing to score some great goals. Saskia was in defence and showed the less experienced players how to tackle like a pro.

Cath was goalie and I think would be the first to agree that her lemon was well deserved.  Fully padded up with the attack approaching, she let out a truly girly squeak to the approach of the ball, threw up her hands and dodged it like a bullet – Matrix-stylee if you will.  A true goalie legend was born.

Tea score after the game a mere 3/10. Flaccid hot dog sausages with tuna pasta. It’s not quite pizza and nachos now is it troops?

Amen.
