The first games just a practice right?

Well this was a marked improvement from the disappointing loss of last weekend against Bourne Deeping. An 8-2 drubbing of Ely on a sunny afternoon is definitely a good way to kick start the winning ways again.

Due to my injury and therefore being a spectator, I missed the first fifteen minutes of the game and have been told that we were 1-0 up fairly quickly, although people couldn’t quite remember how it was scored or who by. I am assuming it was a standard Men’s 1s poke in at the back post; more of an opposition's own goal after a miss trap in the D rather than any real skill or power being involved.

The short corners were by far the most effective weapons for South, through which five of the eight goals were scored. Simon Ta provided the team with a sublime hat trick including a very dubious drag flick that somehow found its way into the corner. Dave “the first half specialist” Halse provided a lovely finish after bursting through the defense to find some space in the D. At half time the match was strongly in South’s favor at 5-0.

During the second half goals were a little more difficult to come by and Ely managed to rally themselves and produce some useful advances beyond South’s 23m line. But the defence held firm, with Graveling marshalling his troops expertly for the majority of the half and Jack Robertson performing solidly as always.

There were two unfortunate goals conceded towards the end of the half, but with Pearson and Chalk (twice) also getting in on the scoring act the game was never in doubt and South ran out comfortable winners.

All in all, a much better game then the previous, which really showed our passing and attacking ability at its most brutal.
