L2 0-5 St Ives Ladies 2

Steph Ashton

After a tough match last week against Cambridge South 1s, the Ladies' 2s were up against more stiff competition this Saturday in the form of St Ives 2s.

A fair few regular L2s' players were unavailable this week, but a number of players from the Ladies' 3s squad were recruited to help us out.

South started well against an experienced and organised St Ives side and immediately put pressure on the visitors, forcing them to make some errors. Unfortunately South were not able to capitalise on this and St Ives came back into the game and scored their first goal.

Disaster then struck as Captain Cath took a knock to the ankle and had to hobble off the pitch. By half time it was 2-0 to St Ives but South could take a lot of positives from the first half.

Despite St Ives scoring three more goals in the second half, it did feel like a contest with the ball going from D to D and South making a number of good counter-attacking moves. Lou G had kindly volunteered to go in goal and she pulled off some great saves to stop St Ives adding more to their tally.

There was great excitement in the last minute as the ball was bouncing around in the St Ives D and a number of South players were trying to get a touch. The shouts from Cath on the sidelines of "get a goal" could be heard far and wide, but unfortunately it wasn't to be.

The final whistle went and despite the loss South felt happy with the performance, especially considering there were a number of new faces in the team who hadn't really played with each other before.

Hungover, injured & a desperate whimper when we almost scored.
