Re-Ely Good Win!

Paresh Parsot

South demolished Ely in a game which saw Tom score one of the League's most spectacular hat-tricks.

The Lord from Scotland scored 3 goals in a game which gives him a combined tally of forty-five hat-tricks within his illustrious hockey/cricket career.

South could have scored several team hat-tricks if it wasn’t for the gale force winds blowing the ball away from the opposition’s goal mouth.

In Bhavs absence, Stu was keen to receive a late xmas card for swatting a fly above his head with his stick. The umpire did not see the fly and assumed the strong winds had made Stu’s stick blow above his head and let him play on.

It took a while for the winds to die down in the second half before south could increase the score line. Simon Ta added two goals before Craig and Pearson completing proceedings with a goal apiece.

Special mention must go to Steve – for an outstanding flawless performance in goal, although a bit more involvement would not go astray because after all hockey is a team game!

Gravelling played outstandingly but his mind was on next month's Cricket World Cup that is being played in the best country of the world – NZ. He was practising his cover drive but unfortunately sliced it (more time in the batting nets required). Meanwhile the late benchwarmer was chatting about the likelihood of NZ winning the cricket and rugby world cups (well actually defending the rugby world cup because they still have it) in the same year!

Overall a good way to start the new year for South and to have a run around after the festive binge drinking and eating.

Non-travelling captain Mike was a vital link in South’s win, with his formation jotted down on the back of anapkin and passed around player to player. Unfortunately Mike still ended up with lemon of the match for not informing anyone that he had recently visited Africa and tried out some of the local air.

MoM was deservedly given to ToM – not for scoring a hat-trick and not cause it was easiest to pick him (you just need to change the first letter “M” into “T”) from but for buying a super jug of beer for the team!
