L3 0-3 St Neots Ladies 3

A promising start to this game. We played very well in the first half and kept the score at 0-0. South's defence worked hard and consistently throughout the game, with lots of vital clearances by sweeper Laura M and Chani, and some great hit-outs from Sarah and Nicola. When St Neots did break through, Anouschka had the opportunity to makes some great saves in her goalkeeping debut.

South came close to a goal in the first half when Louise decided to try a crazy lifted shot which the St Neots' keeper saved with her hand.

Throughout the game the team worked hard, there was some lovely running and passing on the right wing between Lousia and Ellie and Michelle was running hard on the right. Unfortunately we couldn't quite get to that elusive goal. St Neots kept going. Their team included some experienced players with strong hitting skills and eventually they scored.

South lost shape for a little while but towards the end of the half found a second wind, looking a lot more confident again. Unfortunately, Laura E got hit very hard on the foot and had to hobble off so Ania dropped back into defence and made some great blocking tackles. St Neots' final goal came from a penalty flick - a comparitively rare occurrence so it was unlucky that Anoushcka had to face this in her first time in goal.

Still, it was a fun game, friendly opposition and the sun was shining…and there were chips in a nice pub afterwards!
