A Game of Two Halves

John Greaves

First half - not so good. Long Sutton got four goals, all involving short corners.

Second half - better. One goal each, including a text book Harvey dribble and pass to Greaves, to cross to Shabhaz on the P Spot, who turned and shot smartly to grab a consolation.

The Cambridge South defence of Ho/Ho/Bridge/Steed stood firm in open play, with everyone doing their bit to hassle the home forwards and clear the ball swiftly; none better than man of the match Laurie Ho and ace GK Matt Saint-Gower, using stick, hand and feet equally skillfully to protect the goal.

Once again South tried to stick to the plan, but were undone by superior opponents combining wily old heads and rapid youths to control the game. Our breakaways, usually via midfield lynchpins Phil Harvey and Wilco Dijkstra, showed promise, especially when we strung some passes together and moved the ball upfield with pace...with wingers Andy Thomas and Cameron Macleod playing their roles well and never giving up.

Long Sutton is a loooooonnnngggggg way, particular if you are stuck behind a tractor.
