Late Night Trip to Peterborough

Sophie McComish

I'll try to keep this match report clean, unlike some. *cough* Polly *cough*

We won seven-nil. Could have been eight but Lou thought she was playing football, not hockey…more on this later.

We were all so pleased to hear that this week we had a 4pm start away in Peterborough (not) but somehow we managed to pull together a very strong team with three subs, if you can believe it!

The match got off to a great start for Cambridge South, with the whole team playing well and linking passes effortlessly. Sophie and Bex scored well worked goals within the first fifteen minutes, but there were more to come. Sophie managed another goal from a sleek short corner thanks to Georgie J (and Kim for telling us what to do). The defence had little to do during the first half but did enjoy showing off how well they can pass it around the back.

With fresh legs continuously coming off the bench thanks to Diane's carefully planned substitution scheme, it wasn't long before Flix slotted another one past the P'borough keeper. A shot corner for South was won right on the whistle for half time. The whole team pushed up to the D in an effort to get another goal before the break, even Loopy strayed beyond her own 23 (calm down), and what happened? Did we score? No. Did their keeper pull off an awesome save? Nope. Lou forgot why she was holding a stick and gave the ball a good boot.

The second half was just as successful for Cambridge South. Playing as a team, we were rewarded with another goal from Sophie (yes, she got a hat-trick, isn't she just great) and two goals for Elaine (think she was getting jealous).

So there you have it, a cheeky little 7-0 win for the Ladies' 1s. I will leave you with a few momentos from the day:

  • Georgie Howling hasn't got the best time management skills.
  • Bex is colour blind when it comes to red traffic lights.
  • Diane should consider diving as a hobby (beautiful swan dive...perfect 10s all round).
  • Loopy touched the ball once - it was going wide but a dramatic dive made it look like she was involved in the game other than just drying out her keeper's kit from that morning's match.
  • Georgie J and Diane both got a talking-to from the umpires - it's always the quiet ones!
  • Kim is faster than all fifteen year olds ever.
  • Emma and Elaine were in Vegas in case you hadn't heard.
  • Georgie Hurford managed not to swear in front of impressionable young children,
  • Georgina is a very popular name.
  • Wee fifteen year olds have pointy elbows but are easy to push over.
