A Match Report to Kim, About Kim and By Kim

Kim Cooil

On what was supposed to be a miserable Saturday morning, Kim got out of bed, watched Babe the Sheep Pig, drank coffee and cuddled with Myla, her working cocker spaniel. Soon it was time to prepare for hockey.

Kim arrived at Long Road at about 11.00 and spent time talking to her fellow teammates (supporters of her one-man team). Kim warmed up and found out some new information about the 50 squat, sit-up challenge. According to Georgie "Nigel" Hurford, a health and safety warning should accompany the challenge - it can cause chaffing of a certain less than discreet area.

The match started as it was to end; being camped out in Spalding's defensive D. The first goal was to come from Jess in a straight strike on the goal from a short corner. Closely followed by an excellent goal from Sophie, and another one, although that one was fairly average (sorry, Irish).

There were some excellent passages of play from Polly, the forward line and even Lou and Diane got to touch the ball. We had two short corners against us which allowed Loopy to touch the ball (how dare we to make our goalie make a save). We were 3-0 up at half time and apparently that's when things started to get interesting.

After a slightly messy first five minutes of the second half, South managed to settle back into their form. Bex was playing wonderfully and George was linking with George who was passing to George... With three Georgie's now on the team we have had to do some renaming, especially as Kim is often playing in a Georgie sandwich (what a lucky girl)… Introducing Nigel (who I am aware has already been introduced in the Mixed match). Nice Nigel is the Jeckyll to Georgie's Hyde. We also have Jeffers, Jeff, Jeffrey and the newly-crowned George the Third. Goals came from Jeffers, Jo - our South African overseas Dynamo - and Laura, who had a great match.

I've digressed... Now back to talking about Kim. Kim scored in the Mixed match on Wednesday and the pony did not prance, much to her fans' disgust... She felt she had to give the crowd what they wanted. The first goal (yes there was a second) was a shock to everyone - Kim found herself on the post at a short corner, a scrappy save from the keeper saw the ball bobbling toward me. Kim had a go and it scored past the keeper. The pony pranced - excellent you hear... Not so excellent, as John later asked Bex about my mental stability… The second of her two was by far the best - after some inspirational words from Jeffers: "Bit more pace on that ,Kimmy", she had a crack from the TOP OF THE D!! SCORE!

Lou, a little jaded from her night out, momentarily forgot what sport she was playing. She was well beaten by a 14 year old girl and so stuck out her cynical foot. For a fleeting moment we all thought she had gotten away with it but nice Nigel had been replaced by George once more and she started berating Lou (normally my job). With that, the umpires were getting excited. With Mr Robins reaching for his pocket, Lou simply removed herself from the pitch. What a graceful, cynical defender…

The end celebration was somewhat dampened by an altercation... I will never be sure why she chose to pick on Kim. Maybe she knew this match report was supposed to be all about me!!
