M3 1-1 Peterborough Town Mens 5

Cambridge South kicked off their league campaign with a nervous point at home to Peterborough Town. From the start South showed good levels of skills and variation in attack, but always looked vulnerable to conceding.

South spent long periods of the first half camped outside the opposition circle, managing regular shots on goal especially from Wilco Dijkstra, Shantanu Golar and Jack Chalk leading the attacks. After a period of sustained attacks, Chalk picked up a loose ball and beat the keeper on the angle.

A series of short corners for South saw a second goal given, only to be ruled out after South admitted that no-one touched it in the area.

At the other end the Peterborough counter attacks were constantly menacing a brittle South defence. Recently returned Ky Ho at centre back was the pick of the defence.

The second half saw South’s chances dry up and Peterborough Town came forward in large numbers. South continued to provide some counterattacks to trouble the opposition's back line but the majority of the chances were on the South goal. Keeper Jim Sutcliffe was kept busy with several high quality saves, but could not stop a shot from an unmarked man at the top of the D, although Sutcliffe continued to keep Peterborough out until the end of the game.

Man of the match: Jim Sutcliffe - for a series of good stops to keep out Peterborough for so long, with so little protection from the rest of the team. An honourable mention goes to Ky Ho for a strong performance on his return to the club.
