Long May This Continue

A buoyant South side turned up at Long Road with high expectations for the early push back, having put in a strong performance against Long Sutton earlier in the season. After the standard pre-match formalities (run, warm-up, photoshoot (!) - Graham wasn't involved in the sponsorship photoshoot having taken too long to put his socks on, and also noting that he may have put the height order out of balance), the game started.

A somewhat relaxed South cruised through the first ten minutes and had a number of decent chances on goal. Pearson decided he had had enough of the relaxed nature of the game as he darted off from left midfield on a classic one-handed diagonal run. He sent a sublime pass towards McCulloch who rushed in at the far post and slotted home for 1-0.

South picked up the pace and wave after wave of attack put the Long Sutton defence under increasing pressure. As they struggled to clear their lines, Jamie Inshaw scored his first goal for the M1s. Meanwhile, Rimmer bossed the defensive line and even joined in with some attacking action (man of the match), Craig continued to confuse the opposition with his dribbling skills and Jason sat around in goal doing very little (lemon of the match).

The second half continued much the same as the first with South knocking the ball around with relative ease and then either missing a number of chances, or being denied by the Long Sutton goal keeper, to put the game to bed. Graham stepped up with his second goal of the afternoon from a well worked penalty corner and South made it home with another clean sheet and three points.

As ever we were grateful for the sideline support from Jack (heal up soon, we 'kneed' you), Steph, Sarah and various enthusiastic family members!

Continual energy and support of the midfield, combined with solid defence.

Jason Mann
Lemon of the Match

Very quiet game for Jason, really didn't get involved and struggled to contribute - try harder next week!
