L3 1-1 Ely City Ladies 3

The sun was shining and we had a squad of fourteen and a well-planned formation, with everyone able to play in their preferred positions. Facing an opposition very close to us in skill level and league position, South were feeling confident. Polly scored an early goal (her first ever) by chasing down a loose ball in the D.

This was definitely the L3s' best performance of the season yet, with passes becoming more accurate and everyone running hard off the ball and getting into position to help their team mates. South did a good job of pressing around Ely's free hits and sixteens and of chasing loose balls, winning a good number of the interceptions. It's important that we keep this up as we face faster opponents.

Ely's goal came from a break but overall South had more chances, with great runs from the forwards. Sadly, we couldn't get any more of them into the goal and a very enjoyable game against nice, friendly opponents finished one-all with both teams very happy with their point. Match teas were the best of the season so far - home made chilli and nachos and lots of cake.

Polly was a well deserved man of the match while the Lemon prize was shared equally between Lou and Polly, who both fell over.
