A Murderous Halloween Hockey Show

Roisin Screaton

After a two match suspension for subbing the goalkeeper, manager Chalk was reinstated on a performance-based probation basis. It seemed the two weeks had given him some time to revisit his tactics, with the team smashing home a victory this week.

The goals started slowly with Amalia, making a sensational guest appearance, scoring South's first with a shot from the top of the D. Minutes later she sent another ball to the back of the net, giving us a two-nil lead.

After some great play, South earned ourselves another attacking short: following an injection from Roisin, Flo shocked the whole team with a flick from the top of the D, placing the ball in the top left corner of the goal. At half time South were three-nil up.

With some Halloween Haribos for fuel, South were pumped for the second half, although it got off to a rough start with a break from Huntingdon leading to their only goal. After this the defensive line of Hannah, Serin and Meg were alert and made sure no more goals got past them.

Some great passing in the midfield led to lots more great goals. Two more from Amalia, one from Dani with a beautiful sweep from the top of the D, one from Hazel and two for Lauren, tapping them in from the left post.

With ten minutes left and Emma still on the pitch with no injuries, we thought she was in for an injury-free match. But no, this week was just like every other. Physio Kath was waiting on the side lines to carry her off once again and Dani was very keen to jump into her place.

Manager Jack then couldn't resist another sneaky bit of strategy, sending Serin to the front line with a promise that she would get a goal but, alas, there were none left.

A great game for South, finishing with a nine-one win. Man of the match went to Amalia, with her four great goals, and Lemon to Emma for once again having to be carried off the pitch.

Another injury (just ask if you want to be subbed off…)
