Two Goals This Time

Aisha Shu

Today’s match, Cambridge South Ladies' 3s were playing Newmarket 3. Day starts with raining first thing in the morning. When we woke up to the gentle drops on the window, most of us did not want to step out.

We have a platform where we communicate as a team, but when a message came this morning, everyone checked to see if it said, "No game." No chance for us to get back to sleep. Anyway, Captain Laura E was quick to confirm that the game was still on. So, we met at the Newmarket ground, to a pitch which is hard to locate even by the Sat Nav, but we finally got there and changed ready for the game.

It was a good start for us as in the first fifteen minutes we opened the score sheet with a goal which was sneaked in by Aisha Shu. It was a total surprise to the opposition and the goalkeeper had a few words to show she was not pleased. But not later than that, they scored and in turn we also had another goal from Rosie to add to that, which was super amazing. By half time, we were two-all. We did dominate the game by then. This was a good boost to us.

Coming back into second half, Newmarket came back with new energy after they had a talk from their coach at half time. They managed to increase the pressure by scoring another three goals. Our legs where gone by then, the pitch was slippery as it was still raining. The girls in defence were doing a brilliant job of sweeping the balls away from the D. There are massive improvements in the team and overall performance. Great defending helped us not to concede any more goals, defenders like Ania, Laurie, Laura M, Laura E and Ani. We had only two chances at short corners, which were fruitless.

All in all, we scored our highest number of goals in one game so far this season but in the end we lost 5-2. We shook hands and were treated to a nice tea - pasta bolognese.

Bring on the next game, and thank you to Ali for his brilliant coaching and positioning from the side line.

Man of the Match was Rosie for brilliant play, and Lemon goes to Aisha for tripping an opposition player twice!!.
