A Game of Two Halves and a Cracking Win!

The pitch again survived a night of frost and the sun began to shine as the L2s took to the pitch to face Nomads 2 (second in the league)

With first pushback, South took off and re-enacted the super-slick passing of last week's game to send an early ball into the back of the net. The first half continued in the same vein, with the midfield players sending the ball up to the forwards, giving them plenty of shots on goal with Izzy sending two home and Lauren also slipping one past the keeper. Nomads made a few breaks but their attempts were thwarted by the steely defensive unit and some great saves from Loopy. Roisin swept with enthusiasm, trapping the ball time and time again and delivering it to safety. The half time whistle left the score at three-nil to South.

Nomads were clearly a little frustrated to finish the first half goalless and we imagine a feisty team talk was delivered at their end of the pitch during the half time break. With the start of the second half our opponents came on to the attack, although for the majority South retained possession, short corners were won, and shots slid millimetres past the wrong sides of the posts. It was also good to see that Louisa had done her homework and knew exactly where long corners are now taken! With the end in sight, Nomads stole a goal, sneaking the ball past Loopy's pads.

Following fifteen goals without conceeding any for this half of the season, a goal appearing on the opposition's scorecard rattled the ranks. Nomads took advantage and took possession, bringing the ball into our half and keeping it there. An excitable break led to Emma-Rose taking a hit to the thigh - I've stopped counting how many times she has been hit now! However, Nomads took the ball back and began a new assault. The skipper, frantically wanting to take home a win, forgot about some of the rules and charged into one of the Nomads. Jan couldn't resist pulling out a card and a two minute suspension was served. One player down, South rallied round and a few gallant breaks were made, but South's weary muscles couldn't quite find the back of the net again.

South held on to the end and the final whistle blew, leaving the L2s with an epic and deserved win over one of the toughest teams in the league!

As the day drew to a close, the L2s had jumped two places up the table! #wheresthechampagne
