He Said It Would Come…

Laura Edge

This is quite a strange report as it is being written from Barcelona Airport. Many thanks to all the people that have contributed information to make this possible as I made my way on a bus from snowy Andorra. Thanks for taking the reins this week, Liz.

The team have worked hard this year and we have had a great deal of assistance from people from the whole of the club. I think the final result today fully demonstrates the impact of all this persistence, determination and increase in skill levels. We have looked forward to the return match against Ely as a yardstick to measure this development.

Although I can't do anything but mention the goals; the first coming not long before half time, a great shot from the top of the D from Pip, and a second coming very close behind this, from Pip again. The third goal followed from a further short right on the half time whistle, thanks to Hayley and a quick rebound from a defender. Emily managed to grab the fourth goal during the second half, showing real natural talent in her newfound forward position.

Although the goals were exciting, this game was a team effort and is a build up from the whole of this year. Everyone that has helped out with or played for the L3 team this year should feel that this is their win. As Ali has said many times, "It will come." Well, now it really has. Well done!

To add to Laura's report from someone who played was there to see the action unfold...

The whole team were looking forward to this game as we knew that it was our best chance of getting a win.

From the start, South were the dominant side with constant pressure in Ely's half. While Ely had a couple of breaks, Souths solids defence kept the ball out of the goal area. South's first goal came as a result of a short corner, Liz injecting to Pip, who from the top of the D, managed a great strike straight into the goal. A few minutes later, the whole process was repeated - 2-0 to South! Our 3rd goal came as the result of another short corner, just as the half-time whistle blew, and it was Hayley who managed to score the 3rd goal. There was a moment, not long after our first goal when Ely nearly equalised, but thankfully South's defence managed to clear the ball.

During the second half, South remained the dominate side, but Ely upped their game. However they were still unable to find South's goal. The fourth goal came from Emily who scored a great goal from the middle of the D.

The whole team did a great job against Ely, and that was reflected in the result, and the number of different nominations there were for MOM. The whole team are delighted with the result, and we hope it is the second of many more wins to come!
