MV 1-1 Bury St Edmunds Mens Veterans

Bury took an early lead from a well worked short corner. However, Cambridge South immediately started to get back into the game and the whole team started working as a unit. The equalising goal came midway through the first half following a nice move down the left which Mick Beasley, making his first appearance of the season following injury, drove across the circle for Dave Maynard to deflect in.

The rest of the half was dominated by South, with the defence pushing well up to the halfway line. However, the possession and dominance couldn’t be turned into goals although Bury’s goalkeeper was made to work overtime.

The second half started very scrappily with neither side playing well. However, Bury started to gain the initiative after ten minutes and started to dominate for most of the remaining time. South’s defence held firm and Roy Todd made several excellent saves. South were restricted in the main to brief counter attacks but a final effort in the last five minutes saw them come close on several occasions.

So a draw and a fair result between to well-matched teams.
