The match took place between two strong, evenly matched teams on a white, rock-hard astro pitch. The game was played at a fast pace throughout with the ball travelling over the frozen pitch with alarming pace.

The first half saw Cambridge South get the better of Pelicans but the goal from Richard Philpott was their only success. Several other shots went close and at the other end the South defence was solid and held the fast Pelicans attack comfortably.

The second half saw Pelicans draw level and then South take the lead again thanks to a superb run by Steve Fleck from the half-way line to the D, where a neat pass to Richard Bettison gave him a good scoring opportunity which he took comfortably. Pelicans then equalised again and started to dominate the match. The last ten minutes saw South concede a series of short corners and finally a soft goal in the last minute of the match. A draw would have been a fairer result with South winning the first half and Pelicans the second.

So a disappointing result, but a good team performance.
