Another home game – another 1-0 win

Roger Craigen

Cambridge South had the better of the first half and should have scored more than the single goal, which was knocked in following a flowing move by Richard “The Whippet” Bettison. South had numerous good moves in this half, most of them centred around man of the match, Geoff Butcher. The moves were either well saved by Waveney’s keeper or they broke down inside the D with the final touch eluding the hard working forwards. On another day three goals could easily have been scored.

As the saying goes, it was a game of two halves and Waveney had the better of the second, coming close on a couple of occasions. But thanks to the defence and in particular Steve Riches, our stand-in goalie, we kept another clean sheet. The down side was another two injuries, which will keep the players out for a couple of weeks. Geoff was pulled down by a very late clumsy “tackle” by the Waveney goalie resulting in a pulled back muscle and David Chadwick came off at half time with a reoccurrence of an achilles problem.
