Men's 2nds thrash Stevenage 4

The 2nds started the New Year off excellently by getting back into winning ways against a mature Stevenage team. The first half particularly showed the benefits of unselfish teamworking and simple early passing. Andy Lewis showed the way after snaffling up a blocked Barton shot from a well worked short corner.

Dan Adlington then got in on the act in a big way with his first hat trick for the club. His first was a solo effort, nutmegging the keeper confidently; the second was a result of good positioning and some classy work by Matt Murray to cross to him waiting on the penalty spot; his third was a re-run with another Murray cross buried coolly. Skipper John Greaves got another shortly before this one by loitering with intent close to the near post as a Lewis shot from his corner hit had come back off the keeper.

Stevenage were not totally outclassed however and the CSHC defence played solidly throughout, particularly Rob Garrett at sweeper who was faultless in an unaccustomed position and deservedly shared the MoM spoils with goal hero Adlington. Matt Murray rounded off the first half with a trademark mazy dribble and a double shot - the first having been stopped.

Stevenage came back in the second half, helped by masterful goalkeeping from guest Tim Poole, and CSHC were only able to add one further goal. This came from, who else, Adlington, who picked up the pieces from another short corner to cap a great performance for him and the team as a whole.
