MV 2-1 Letchworth Mens Veterans

Roger Craigen

As the saying goes, “a game of two halves”.

The first is one that the vets want to forget, everyone performing to a poor standard as if they were beginners playing with a group of strangers. Half time saw us one down and, in the main, outplayed by a younger team.

And then came the second half: what was in Phil’s bottle of water that was handed around during the interval? Everyone wanted to play and pass the ball to a team member. There were numerous good moves and the equaliser came from one of a series of short corner that was controlled first time and fired home by Richard Bettison in an unstoppable manner.

The second came from another excellent move which saw a shot from the left rebound off the keeper’s pads to an unmarked Karl Konradt over on the right, who had time to control the ball before hammering home from a very tight angle from the edge of the D.

So a game of two halves, with South coming out on top; deservedly so overall. Man of the match – difficult to say as a good team performance in the second half with everyone contributing from defence to midfield to forwards; just as it should be.
