M1 1-1 St Neots Mens 2

South were looking for three points at home to St Neots but once again were thwarted in their efforts. Fielding a strong side for a change, skipper Graveling was confident he could lead his team to victory but early in the first half an unfortunate incident scuppered that plan.

A clash between two players was followed by an unnecessary off-the-ball reaction by a South player. Both were yellow carded. The St Neots player was let back on the pitch after ten minutes of the second half but the South player was off for the remainder of the game.

With only ten men each, the game opened up and some excellent hockey was played by South who dominated possession and territory. A breakaway goal against the run of play from St Neots wasn't pretty as the ball dribbled over the line after a goalmouth scramble. South replied in much more emphatic fashion after the restart. The ball was fired into the D from a free hit and Fleck expertly turned it into the net. A textbook goal which secured a well deserved point.

The return match will be interesting…
