M1 0-3 Ely City Mens 1

Cambridge South's miserable run continued with a three-nil defeat to an Ely City side only a few points ahead of them in the table.

The very first action of the match was to sum up the day for South - a loose pass putting themselves under pressure in their own 25. It was soon apparent that Ely were the more compact side, and were passing and moving with much more vigour than their opponents. This adherence to getting the basics right proved a recipe for success and resulted in three first half goals without reply. The South marking was non-existent at times, which made life considerably easier for Ely. In reply, South did put together a few attacks and were unlucky when a Matt Murray shot was very well saved by the keeper.

The second half was an improvement by South but they still looked woefully short of cutting edge in attack. They largely dominated the possession but could not create any clear cut opportunities as solid defending by Ely kept them at bay. Ely created few further scoring opportunities themselves but sitting on a 3-0 lead, they didn't have to.
