M2 3-2 Bishops Stortford Mens Veterans

Cambridge South faced a typical wily vets team from Bishop's Stortford, who initially dominated the match by getting the ball to do the work and using their skills well. The first half was even and the only goal came from a goalmouth scramble, the home team stopping for an expected whistle. It never came and the Stortford forward slid the ball home.

Soon after half time the situation was reversed for the CSHC equaliser, which the hungry Lockhart pounced on after a number of dubious tackles to prod the ball in to the net. Lockhart grabbed another from a far more fluent combined forward move with a well struck shot from a tight angle. Burridge and Adlington were persistent throughout the match, resulting in many good attacks and Adlington was unlucky a number of times not to score. Bishop's Stortford got their second goal after the home team were dispossessed and left short in defence, leaving an unmarked forward to score with a delightful reverse stick effort.

This was an aberration and the defence of Devereux, Simpson and the dynamic dribbling sweeper HJ were otherwise watertight - which was lucky since it rained heavily through most of the game.

Greaves scored the winner through sheer persistence as Cambridge South bombarded the D and he grabbed the loose ball to push it past the keeper. Man of the Match honours went to Korstanje, who bossed the game in midfield and was the source of many attacks.
