Six of the best

SOUTH went into the penultimate game of the indoor round-robin knowing that two wins guaranteed a top-three finish and the crack at the championship.  Unfortunately, the only consistent part of the season reared its ugly head and we played with 7 again.

The first ten minutes saw three goals and some exciting attacking from both sides.

Nomads scored twice but were pegged back by the current top goal-scorer Chris Pearson from the incisiveness of Mike Karran and the cool passed threaded from Oliver “Wiz” Lamming.  This would be as close as the scores would get to each other as Nomads struck a blow before the half-time whistle.  Tired legs however pushed hard and were rewarded with a short corner at the end.  “Spikey” Mike Karran made no mistake as he speedily dispatched the ball into the goal.  Half-time and 3-2 down with a lot of promise.

The second half was a harvest that bore no fruit.  Despite relentless counter-attacking, SOUTH were unable to convert their chances and Nomads were.  Despite going further behind, there was no surrender and the team kept going on as well they could.  The tired legs were simply not a match for the reasonably well drilled Nomads team that had 4 subs.  We move on to the next week where if we win by five goals, we can still finish 3rd.

Everyone played amazing under the circumstances.  Roll on next week!
